I’m not the type to spend hours on my looks. Heck, I get up and go anywhere in half an hour or less. 5 min or less if I’m really running late. Like many people, I’ve struggled with acne pretty much since puberty. I’m 30 now…yeah I still get pimples…thanks hormones! It comes and goes and I’ve tried many different products. It wasn’t until I gave up that I found what worked for me.
What’s my skincare regime? Simple:
- coconut oil as moisturizer
- baking soda + water to exfoliate
- Sun tan lotion when called for (ok, I should do it every day but I don’t. Bad me.)
- tea tree oil for blemishes
That’s it. No fancy products, just simple, natural things. I generally do not wear makeup, and when I do it’s mineral makeup. If I wear makeup I wash my face with only water every day. If I’m not wearing makeup then it’s more like every other day.
I rinse my face with water and give it a nice little massage. After shower time, or face washing time, I put on a touch of coconut oil. It’s pure coconut oil, and a little goes a long way. That’s it. If I know I’ll be spending time outside, then I’ll add sun block. The tea tree oil is for spot treating zits. My tea tree oil is diluted with a carrier oil, but if yours isn’t you’ll want to dilute it yourself or it may burn. To exfoliate, usually a few times a month, I’ll mix up a paste of water & baking soda and smear it on my face, massaging it in small circles as I do so. If I have time I let it sit until it drys, then hop in the shower and wash it off. If I don’t have time then I’ll rinse it off immediately.
Natural skincare products can be pricy, even the not so natural ones can be very expensive. Skin care doesn’t have to be though. If you do nothing else, try switching out coconut oil for your moisturizer see if you can tell the difference. This is just what works for me, it may not work for everyone. Everyone’s skin is different. Have you tried a more natural approach to skincare? Have you noticed a difference? What works for you?
