Happy Earth Day my fellow Earthicans! Our world may be filled with strife and conflict, but we must never forget that while we all have our differences there is one thing that unites us. The Earth. This is our home.
Our only home.
We must protect and care for it, not just for one individual group of people, but for every single person and living thing on this planet. Only together can we leave a place that is fit for our children and our children’s children to live in. What will we leave them? The tattered husk of a world stripped of its resources by their forefather’s greed? Or a world that returns from the brink of disaster to become once more a garden of plenty?
The choice is ours.
The choice starts with each and every one of us. It’s the little choices we make every day. The choices we make when we purchase an item, our choices in how we use that item and ultimately how we discard that item. What will you choose to do? Will you choose to put your money, your actions to a brighter future for us all? Or will you stand by apathetically and let the future generations fend for themselves?
Earth Day calls us to make the choice to do something to protect the world. That could be as simple as choosing fair trade coffee or re using that can. It could be bigger than that, like having a yard and garden filled with native plants, or investing in solar panels for your home. Whatever you choose, your choice matters. Every single time you choose to do something, it matters. That choice to use a reusable cup at your morning coffee stop matters. The choice to use a non-compostable, non-recyclable one time use disposable cup also matter.
On this Earth Day I call upon you, yes, YOU, to make one choice that helps the world. It doesn’t matter how small it is. Choose something and make an impact. What will you choose?
Me? I’m choosing to eat less meat, specifically conventionally raised beef (tough if I’m doing my shopping at the commissary).
