I love curry. I love Indian curries, Thai curries and Japanese curries. So when DH went to Cocos Curry in Okinawa without me, I was pretty bummed. Everyone I know who has been or currently is in Okinawa raves about it. I’ve been dying to try it, but a trip to Oki wasn’t in our immediate future. Sadness ensued and I moved on to non-curry related business. Until DH learned that there were Cocos here in Seoul!
We had to find it! There are several of them around, however, their website is all in Korean…and partially in Flash which Chrome won’t translate. We found the address for one in Gangam. Around an hour of metro travel later we arrived near our destination. We have a rather poor record of finding things online then trying to find them in real life when it comes to Seoul. We usually end up in the wrong place. However, this time we were spot on. We found what we sought: Coco’s delicious curry!
It was pretty easy to find, they were only slightly off the main street with an easy to find sign. We arrived around lunch time, the place was pretty crowded. Fortunately we got a table and were immediately seated. The menus were in English and Hangul, however our server didn’t speak any English. It wasn’t a problem as we could easily point to the meal we wanted, the size we wanted and the level of spice.
For those that aren’t familiar with Cocos they have ten different levels of spice. For those who don’t like spicy things there’s normal or level 0. No spice at all. I do enjoy a bit of spice, but had been warned it can get really spice, so I started on the safe side with a level 2 pork cutlet curry. It was spot on spice wise. The curry’s heat just builds as you eat. Level 2 was just spicy enough so you could feel it, but my tongue wasn’t on fire. I wouldn’t go above a 3.
I’m not all that familiar with Japanese curry, however it was delicious! I would eat there again in a heartbeat. It’s probably a good thing they aren’t near us as I’d be there more frequently than I probably should. It’s a really good fast food curry. If you like curry, if you want to try the institution that is Cocos hit them up if they are near you. You can find them throughout Asia, Hawaii and California.
