Kara Eats will be a re-occurring series based on random foods I try in Korea and where ever else my travels take me. I’m no food critic so don’t look for that sort of insight here. This is just the opinion of a girl from Vermont trying new foods!
Today on Kara Eats: Pizza in Korea!
I’m starting out on a less than adventurous note with pizza. DH found a random pizza place the other day and insisted it was awesome and we had to try it. Now, let it be known I’m a bit particular about how I like my pizza. First, I’m a New York style pizza girl. Huge slices with a thin crust and just the right amount of sauce and cheese. Deep dish? Don’t even go there.
This particular pizza place is a local joint. Though Papa John’s and Dominoes are here (with scooter delivery service) we haven’t had them. This place had a number of style pizzas. I opted for the cheese to test the waters. To give you an idea of some of the other flavors they had there was a pizza with fries on it (the Irish potato pizza), one with chicken tenders, the spicy chicken pizza, and one that had what looked like some sort of sausage (think little breakfast links looking sausages), one with hot dog on it, Mexican pizza, and of course corn on nearly every type of pizza.
We ordered cheese with no corn. The crust was pleasantly thin, with just enough sauce and a decent amount of cheese. The sauce was tangy and sweet. Pizzas only come in one size (as far as we could tell), basically a personal pizza size, maybe slightly larger. We got our pizzas to go, and they were bundled up and tied with ribbon for easy transport. Additionally they came with 2 sauce packets. I tried both. One was a Parmesan cheese powder to sprinkle on our pizza and the other was a hot sauce along the lines of Tabasco. I used both on my pizza as hot sauce always makes everything delicious.
I enjoyed our pizza, it was very good. Not New York style by any stretch of the imagination but way better than the junk at the food court on base, not to mention way cheaper!
I will definitely try the more adventurous pizza’s, I mean, fries on a pizza? How can that not be good?!
