You encounter a lot of problems large and small when you PCS. From not packing your phone’s charger, to messed up paperwork delaying your move. But what about your job? If you have one that is. It’s unfortunate in this day and age where remote jobs are at the same time so common but also so hard to come by that there is a good chance you’ll lose your job when your Orders come.
Much has been written about finding a new job at your next duty station (including some by me) and that’s all well and good. Lets be honest for a moment though: It sucks.
Okay, pity party over.
You may think that to help preempt this you should limit your job search to jobs that you know (okay so not know, assume) that you’ll be able to take it with you. A word of advice from one who did just that.
Don’t limit yourself or your career options. If you see a good job opportunity, go for it.
No job is guaranteed. No one else will look out for your career but yourself. That’s not to say you shouldn’t do what you have to do to pay the bills, do that. But when you see that dream job sitting there, or the next step on the career ladder taunting you go after it.
Yeah you might only be there for a year and a half more, but if you get it, that’s a year and a half more experience at your new dream job and another step up the ladder!
