Disclaimer: All opinions expressed here are my honest opinion, and have not been influenced in any way. I receive no compensation for this post, I just want to share some cool products. Also, I’m no beauty blogger, so excuse my poor pictures, no idea the best way to take selfies for a beauty blog type post.
Over the holidays I was happy to receive some Ava Anderson Non-toxic (now Pure Haven Essentials) products as gifts. I love trying new Eco-friendly personal care products and am always on the lookout for quality, affordable, brands. Ava Anderson products are completely non-toxic and use organic ingredients. It’s important to realize that natural personal care products can still be toxic. Essential oils and other natural ingredients can be toxic and must be used appropriately to make sure they are safe.
The Ava Anderson Non-toxic (now Pure Haven Essentials) products that I received and tested are the following:
Now on to the products! I’ll be talking about each one individually and then share my overall impression at the end. So in no particular order…
The Lip Balm
The lip balm goes on easy and is very light and moisturizing. It has a light mint flavor and smell. My dry lips were loving it! Definitely one of the best lip balm’s I’ve tried (as a Vermonter it’s a staple in your jacket pocket and purse every winter). My one concern is that in the warmer months, especially in a hot place like Korea it may melt since it is natural and has no stabilizers (last summer my coconut oil was liquid). It softens very easily once it touches your lips which is great, but not so great for storing it in hot weather.
UPDATE 1/18/2015 – The lip balm survived a very hot & humid Korean summer! It did not in fact melt! It did however, get a little grainy. That has not impacted how well it works. This is still my fave lip balm due to how well it works and how smoothly it goes on.

The Mineral Foundation
I’ve tried at least 5 different mineral foundations over the years. I love them, but finding ones that are affordable and are organic is hard! So I was excited to try Ava Anderson’s mineral foundation. The shade selected for me was medium, which turned out to be right on! My skin tends to the olive side of things with as far as I can tell – mostly neutral undertones. The powder is light, very light! It’s probably one of the lightest mineral foundations I have tried! This mean it does tend to get airborne when applying it with your brush, which isn’t so great, but once it’s on your face you barely know it’s there! I used my concealer brush to use the foundation as a concealer on my trouble blemish areas. It covered them well, and buffed to a light powdery finish. The foundation also lasts all day, and doesn’t seem to rub off as easily as some (if you are like me and forget not to rub/itch/touch your face when you have makeup on).
- Illite clay
- Silk powder
- Organic Arrowroot
PS. My makeup skills aren’t the best, and neither are my selfie skills.
I’ve been looking for a natural mascara that’s affordable and awesome, so I was very excited to try this one! The mascara is great, it doesn’t clump at all, and looks very natural. It’s NOT waterproof, so do keep that in mind. It covers well, and lasts all day!

Lemon Sugar Body Scrub
If there is one thing my dry winter skin needs, it’s a nice scrub. This lemon scrub certain smells the part, but unlike some scrubs with artificial smells this smells 100% natural, like an actual lemon! I’m not a huge fan of citrus scrubs smells in my bath products, so it’s not the smell I’d choose. However, it’s a great scent for your morning shower, since it’s very invigorating and fresh! This scrub was great everywhere I tried it (from my dry legs to my combination skin face). It was gentle enough for my face, yet also worked on my rough, dry elbows and knees. It also has just the right amount of moisture. Some scrubs can leave an oily feel on your skin, not this one! No oily feel at all, just perfectly moisturized!
Update 1/18/2015 – I used it all. That’s right, it’s empty. It lasted about a month or two. It’s a great scrub!

I have been impressed with the quality and ingredients of the Ava Anderson products I have tried. They are full of natural and organic ingredients that come together to create non-toxic and high quality products.
Edit: 2/22/16 – Ava Anderson products have now re-branded. They will now be offered under the Pure Haven Essentials brand. There also seems to be some confusion on what it means to be certified USDA Organic, check out the certification process here. Currently these products are not certified organic, nor do they claim to be. However, they do include organic (not certified) ingredients.
