Note from the author: Since this was written, Kallie Shoes has rebranded as Kallie & Co.
I love shoes, but being an ecologically and socially minded consumer finding shoes I love, that are affordable and produced in ecologically and socially conscious ways are hard to find! Yet such things do exist! Enter Kallie & Co. I first found Kallie & Co through Instagram and fell in love with their gorgeous shoes, and their business philosophy. So when I got the chance to review a pair of shoes I was ecstatic!
Kallie & Co shoes are hand-made, by women in Mexico who are paid a fair wage and treated fairly for their work. All their shoes are vegan and cruelty free and as if that’s not good enough, it’s also a milspouse owned company! So it’s not surprising when you discover Kallie & Co also donates a percentage of their profits to the Semper Fi Fund as well as participating in various philanthropic efforts around the world! Kallie & Co was founded by Nadia Martinez, a military spouse, who like many of us was searching for not only a comfortable, stylish and practical pair of shoes but a career that she could take with her no matter where she went.
The pair of shoes I received are the Bostonianos. Perhaps it’s the New Englander in me, but they just jumped out at me and I knew I had to have them. I received my shoes last week, and while the mail was not kind to my poor box, the shoes protected by their sturdy shoe box arrived in perfect condition with a lovely note from Nadia! I have to say I was surprised when I opened the box to reveal my shoes. They were gorgeous! These are probably my first vegan shoes, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The shoe material is a sturdy suede like material, and the laces are silky, smooth ribbons. The soles are a sturdy rubbery-plasticy material with grippy nubbins on the bottom. The soles are firm, yet not uncomfortable.
When I first put them on, I was nervous. They were pretty tight! Even in the thin “fake socks” (yes, they are literally called that on the package) it was a squeeze to get my feet in. Yet once I had them on they were very comfortable. Since they are not made of leather, I wasn’t sure how well they would loosen up…or even if they would! Fortunately the did loosen up and quite quickly too! After about 10min of wearing them around the house they had loosened considerably and now fit very comfortably. All the initial tightness was gone! I’ve worn them out and about in Seoul, and have walked probably around 5 miles so far in them. They haven’t given my any blisters or been uncomfortable! The sole is great and not at all slippery as some shoes with harder soles can be.
Style wise these look great with jeans. However, I also think they’d look fine with dressier pants and are totally office appropriate as well. They are the sort of shoes you can dress up or down. They land somewhere between a sneaker and a flat, which is why I love them. Perfect for most occasions!
